The path

Description

From the parking of the structure named “Villa Canello”, follow the “Porta del Soccorso” path to
the castle of “Conegliano” city, passing through the door, then descend on “Madonna della Neve”
road where the imposing walls overlook and enter the city alongside the convent of Saint Francis.
Go along to “Giambattista Cima” street where is the birthplace of the famous painter and arrive in
“Cima square”, the central nucleus of the locality of “Conegliano” in front of the “Accademia”
Theater. Go along the street next to the theatre to reach” Porta Leone” and here you turn onto “via
Scoto de Scoti”, formerly “calle degli Asini”, which runs alongside the “Annunziata” oratory. Once
again at the castle, retrace the outward stretch in the opposite direction, returning to “Villa Canello”
place.

Curiosities

City of art and wine, “Conegliano” is known for being the birthplace of the great Renaissance
painter “Giambattista Cima”, whose masterpieces embellish museums around the world. Its historic
center follows the extension of the ancient medieval village once enclosed by walls. Along the “XX
Settembre” street, the ancient “Contrada Grande”, you can admire the frescoed facades and the
stone decorations of splendid Renaissance palaces. The cathedral represents the religious and
artistic heart of the city. Inside you can admire works of great value, including an artwork of
“Giambattista Cima” left in the city. Do not miss a visit to the adjoining “Sala dei Battuti” with
frescoes by painters “Francesco da Milano” and “Pozzoserrato”. Also noteworthy is the Chapter
Hall, embellished with five Flemish tapestries. made by “Pozzoserrato” are also the frescoes that
decorate its facade, with biblical scenes interspersed with figures of sibyls and prophets. Also, along
the “Contrada Grande” there is “Sarcinelli” Palace, built in the first half of the 16th century and the
current home of the Art Gallery which hosts important exhibitions of local and international artists
every year. The city of “Conegliano” is home to numerous events that enliven the historic centre
throughout the year. The most characteristic is undoubtedly the event called “Dama Castellana”, the
most important historical re-enactment of the village of “Conegliano”.
