The path
Description
From the town hall of “Mareno di Piave” village you walk up to the church of “SS. Pietro e Paolo” and then head to the hamlet of “Soffratta”. Entering the open countryside, follow the “Monticano” course embankment for two kilometres, observing “Villa Montalbano Balbi Valier Paoletti” (17th century) and then enter the “Guadon” nature trail, before reaching the location of “Oasi Campagnola” where there is a small lake with accommodation facilities. From “Villa Wiel”, now called “Dall’Armellina” (19th century), the tour is completed along “Conti Agosti” Street.
Curiosities
The only Venetian doge buried on the mainland rests in the locality of “Mareno di Piave”. To find out, we must move from the town center along the road that leads to the fraction of “Santa Maria del Piave” where we found “Villa Tron Donà Dalle Rose”, an imposing building dating back to the sixteenth century surrounded by a park of five thousand square meters. Originally it was owned by Tron family, then passed on to the “Donà Dalle Rose” counts. The peculiarity that distinguishes this marvellous place concerns the ancient chapel of “Santa Eurosia”: there is the “Francesco Donà Dalle Rose” sepulchral monument who was Doge of the city of Venice between 1545 and 1553. He is the only one doge buried outside Venice.
