The path
Description
From via San Rocco, at the southern gates of the village of Segusino, follow via Volpere until you enter in the area of the vineyards along the stream Fossà. Go up to the edge of the Arcisa and Conera valleys, then follow the path n.1006 to get to the large meadows named “Pianar” where there is a roccolo. Once in the woods, you meet telecommunications pylons and then you reach the church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio. The descent takes place through the steep track that descends to the north for steep hairpin bends, till to the capital of San Rocco.
Curiosities
Saints Gervasio and Protasio were twin martyrs remembered on June 19 whose cult became very popular thanks to the work of St. Ambrose. Behind the church you can see a ruined house, inside which there is a room with fireplace and a small atrium with a wooden staircase that leads to the sides of the altar. This building was the home of a hermit, as attested by Bishop Gregorio Barbarigo during his pastoral visit to Segusino in 1666. There is an old doggerel that describes the different churches and capitals that are observed from San Gervasio: San Giovanni in te la val, San Giacomo sul canal, San Bastian su in tel col, San Gervasio sul piol.
