The path

Description

From the fraction of “Cortina” in the hamlet of “Bibano”, in “San Martino” square, you enter the
open countryside on “Via del Millennio”, meeting the capital of the priest Dionisio Ragazzon.
Follow “Palù” street, a historic reclamation area, then enter vast expanses of fields on “Manin”
street, the site of the ancient Roman centuriation. Across the headlands, you follow the course of the
“Zigana” stream to then reach the rural oratory of “San Bartolomeo”, located near an ancient mill
and a fishpond. Afterwards, after passing a stretch with footbridges, you return to the village along
the cycle path of “Marconi Street”.

Curiosities

The origins of the locality of “Godega” are very ancient. The Goths who came from the north to
invade Italy between the fifth and sixth centuries, most likely gave birth to the first settlement,
while the hamlets of “Bibano” from “Baebius”, and “Pianzano” from “Plancius”, are traced back to
the time of Roman colonization. It is likely that the first parish in the location of “Pianzano” was the
ancient oratory in the hamlet of “Sant'Urbano” dating back to the 12th century, around which the

homonymous May fair took place since time immemorial, while further south the” villa et regula di
Baverio” was born, with the church of “San Biagio”. The two urban agglomerations were located
along an important communication route from the Roman era that connected, and still connects, the
locality of “Oderzo” with the village of “Ceneda”. In the Middle Ages this road took the name of
“Levada”,because it was raised over the marshy land of the “Palù”, then renamed “Via del Sale” in
the Venetian era. The hamlet of “Godega” originally had to look like a poor village of peasants and
shepherds always fighting for survival. On the highly permeable land of “Campardo”, water was
scarce and this prompted the members of the “Rule” to prepare a consortium well in the thirteenth
century that would satisfy the primary needs of the people. Thus, was born “Pozzo della Regola”
which still dominates the center of the ancient town. It should be noted that the official name of the
Municipality of “Godega di Sant’Urbano" was proclaimed with the Royal Decree of 1867, to
resolve the marked individuality of the ancient hamlets.
